HAVE PAINT, WILL TRAVEL ™

THE WILSONS

Anna and Zack wanted a mural that was an infusion of both of their favourite art styles (my classic‘ tattoo style’ and graffiti) including multiple elements and references for the kids and the Wilson family. After some back and forth playing with different concept idea’s (as you can imagine, fusing different styles and multiple artworks isn’t easy!) - we landed on the perfect style and solution!

By recreating an old ‘graffiti’ style wall for the background (something that you would typically see in an abandoned warehouse) we could cover the wall in multiple layers to give it the depth and an‘ edgy’ look we were wanting - but most importantly the opportunity to include graffiti, their names,  and hidden and positive messages throughout the design without overpowering it.

As I don’t come from a graffiti background (or willing to pretend like I do) and wanting to achieve the best possible result - I collaborated with one of the country’s most prolific graffiti writers Sofles for the project. This ensured that I would have his expertise and skillset to ensure the graffiti elements were not authentic but also world-class.

We decided with keeping the background washed and shades of grey - to tie into the court and complement the house and give us a nice, soft and interesting background ensuring the main elements would have maximum impact.
