THE BUNKER

‘The Bunker’ is a gym like no other - and one of my favourite and best projects of my career. I absolutely love it and am so proud of it - not just because of the result, scale or calibre or the cool brief and having full creative control - also because I was able to really push and challenge myself, experiment with new styles and geek out with the design and finishes.

The goal was to create a unique and unexpected experience - by transforming the new building with an ‘old’ classic NYC graffiti style warehouse look but feel like you are stepping into an old boxing gym.

With ‘The Bunker’ being a personal home gym, I wanted to make sure the space was full of inspiration, positive messages and little hidden personal references for Luke (Aspley Mazda) and his family. Thanks again for the trust and opportunity with the project my friend - dream project and client.

As I don’t come from a graffiti background nor willing to pretend like I do or compromise the result - I collaborated with Sofles for the project.

Sofles is not only one of ‘the world’s biggest and most prolific’ graffiti writers - but also one of the most skilled, versatile and experience - which meant he would bring his expertise help me create an authentic and world-class installation.

WORKOUT AREA

To achieve an authentic result, the installation was made up of countless layers of different styles of graffiti and artworks that were applied in a mixture of applications, techniques and mediums to ensure it looked like it was created over a long period of time and by countless people - which included: using sprayers of watered down paint, aerosol, acrylic, markers, roller and stencil pieces, creating custom stickers ..and even grinding back finished artworks to make it look old and decayed.
