Dunn Residence - Inside
I was stoked for the opportunity to come back and paint at the beautiful Dunn residence in Teneriffe, Brisbane. This time I was inside, commissioned to paint the garage area in the lower level and elevator (and shaft) of the 4 story converted warehouse home. Super fun.
The project quickly gained media attention - which had it featured in the ‘Mansion Australia’ magazine.
GARAGE
As the garage is underground and features the original exposed concrete floor and exposed brick feature wall on the opposite side, the space already had a really cool style and vibe to it - so I felt it was important to take inspiration from and work with and compliment the space - opposed to risking something that would either clash or simply take away from the space.“Never Stop” was inspired by Peter’s mantra (and number plate) and ‘The Vault’ is the name and outside of their personal gym.
Elevator Shaft
The goal was to create an expected surprise when opening the doors - and create a unique and unpredictable experience in the elevator whilst travelling up throughout the floors before entering the art-filled, designer house.
With the main entrance of the elevator located in garage, I took inspiration from the dark industrial vibe, the clean lines from the garage installation and the decay (multiple layers of paint) that you would find in an old abandoned building.
I started with a darker monochromatic grey style at the bottom and slowly transitioned into a gradient of different colours and mixture of designs as you move up throughout the levels to ensure it was constantly changing, providing different and hidden artworks along the way.
The cool part about this elevator is that both sides are exposed - so it really feels like you are travelling up and throughout an old abandoned building - and only highlighted with the contrast of the bright and beautiful levels of the home.
