Sailor Jerry x 3 Amigo’s
This project was the first time working in London and my first time working with Sailor Jerry on an ‘official’ merchandise collaboration - which was both a huge and pretty cool moment for me as this was something I had always worked and strived for since the beginning.
The collaboration was an initiative to essentially, make something cool out of nothing and to show some love to and support to one of London’s first and last remaining skater-owned skateshops, The Three Amigo's. The collaboration and merch was to be based around the mural that I was to paint on the exterior of the shop.
That said, before I get into it, I want to start by quickly making a point of thanking Dave once for the opportunity and incredible hospitality - It was such an epic and incredible experience.
As the official launch party was taking place just days after I was due to arrive in London, I had to work backwards - meaning I needed to design the mural before I left Australia - to give us enough time to have the merch made for the launch itself.
As the collaboration was for apparel and yep, you guessed it, a skateboard - I had to create a couple of different variations. The first step was to hand paint them before digitising the work & sending the ‘print ready’ files over to the UK.
The collection consisted of an exclusive Steen Jones x Sailor Jerry x 3 Amigo’s tee, skateboard deck and prints. There were 2 kids of prints -‘Fine Art’ and‘Digital’.
The fine art prints were hand-numbered and finished with my signature wax seal for the VIP Guests. The digital prints were something we made up for everyone that came along to celebrate on the day/night.
I landed in London, dropped my gear off and got straight to work! I was both so excited to start and nervous that I would run out of time/ruin everything that I didn’t and couldn’t waste a second. I was that eager (or scared) that I essentially pumped out the majority within the first 24 hours of being in London.
That said, I was now 2-ish days ahead of schedule - which meant I had the perfect opportunity to rest and get over jet-lag before the big event …or enquire about and paint the next-door neighbours wall instead. I went with the latter and Camden had a new Sailor Jerry inspired panther/snake mural.
Party time! We"officially" kicked off the event around 2pm however we had a fair crew us from when the store opened and I started painting in the AM - which was such a beautiful surprise for me - as truth be told, I really didn’t know what to expect and certainly didn’t expect anyone to know of or really care about me - boy, was I wrong. I was/am still absolutely blown away. I still can’t believe it either, or that we almost sold out of the decks before the event even started!!
That said, by the time we “kicked off” everyone was buzzing and we hit the ground running! By the time the band rolled in at 4pm, everyone was rockin’ and rolling …and human ten pin bowling ha ha. The rest is history & for another day! Last but not least, I want to quickly shout out and send some love to everyone that came by and showed me love in anyway shape or form for this collab and event - you have no idea how much it meaned to me or how grateful I am!
Till next time!!
